New 1.8.2 Google App Engine Pre-Release SDK available !

During last months we’ve seen a lot of changes and improvements and, in some cases, problems with App Engine. I think it’s a good idea stay in touch about these new features, recently changes and the problems.

In fact, Google App Engine jumped from 1.7.7 version to 1.8.0 when It introduced the new PHP SDK.

We’ve seen certain type of problems that make our job a little bit difficult since Google I/O and the new PHP SDK release. Problems with taskqueue API, HR Datastore, Memcache make our applications increase latency times, however as always Google provides a very quickly and good resolution for the problems.

This year in Google I/O they announced new PHP Google App Engine SDK. This was a very very great announcement for what there are lot of people waiting for. I think this new SDK can that more developers will come to their Google App Engine platform.

Now you can configure WordPress and run into Google App Engine. It’s amazing ! I let you a very simple guide to run WordPress on Google App Engine and you can know how to configure WordPress for Google App Engine.

More new features have come to Google App Engine.

  • Full Text Search now is a feature that isn’t in a Experimental mode.
  • Task queue API is now a GA feature and now it’s asynchronous, it means you can add, delete multiple tasks in parallel.
  • The new Google Cloud Storage API will replace the old files API.
  • Google has increased the number of versions you can have for your applications. Previously the limit was 10 versions.
  • To improve the system the Datastore now assigns scattered auto ids by default. That was a very important and difficult change.
  • New and improved development app server.
